Job TitleWork Experience Placements

Job Description

We run a comprehensive work experience placement week at Waddesdon that offers students the chance to experience working life within a selection of our many different departments. Each department will offer a planned experience offering an invaluable insight into their world. Our dates for 2017 are Wednesday 28 June – Sunday 2 July.

Students will rotate through the following departments during their week with us:
• Retail – we sell a variety of wonderful goods from our shops and they are always bustling with visitors. You might be asked to help with stock checking, restocking, greeting guests or simply helping visitors find that perfect item.
• Catering – at Waddesdon all our food served in the restaurant, café and kiosk are prepared in our own kitchens by our chefs. You may be helping our pastry chef in the kitchen prepping ingredients or working with the staff in the restaurant or café welcoming and serving guests. This will give you a good insight into how a busy catering operation is run.
• Visitor Services – this busy department is responsible for looking after the whole visitor experience. From the volunteers who work across the Manor and gardens, to the gardening department who keep the gardens pristine, to selling tickets and NT memberships this department covers it all. You could be out and about meeting and greeting visitors as they arrive, joining the volunteers in the house or helping sell raffle tickets.
• Stewarding & Conservation – throughout the main house are the Rothschild family’s collection of art and artefacts. Preserving this collection and enabling it to be viewed by our visitors is just one of the responsibilities of the Conservation department. Assisting this department will give you valuable insight into how an historic house is looked after for future generations.
• Education & Learning – we host around 100 school visits a year and also run a busy programme of family events and activities throughout the year. You may be asked to help with the set-up of family events or assisting with the arts and crafts activities.

We welcome applications from students from 15 to 18 years of age at the time of the work experience week. If you are interested in applying for this work experience opportunity please send in your CV with a covering letter to Helen Franklin, Volunteer Manager, [email protected]. Applications will be considered on a first come first served basis. If your application has been successful you will be contacted and shortlisted for an interview.

We look forward to welcoming you to Waddesdon.
