Part time jobs are a great way to gain experience that will be useful on your CV while you earn, especially if you’re also studying at the same time. If you know the career path you want to follow then applying for a full time job is probably your next step and at we have a range of employers who have full time vacancies that are well suited to young people with little experience.

In general if you’re entering a job without much experience or straight from school or college it will be hard to get use to at first but will also be the fastest way for you to learn and develop skills, starting from the bottom and building a strong CV from a young age can set you up well for future career progression.

Full time work is usually when a someone is working over 35 hours per week

Part Time work is usually anything below these hours per week

You have to be aged 13 or over to get a part time job, and can only start working full time when you have reached the minimum school leaving age which is 16 years old.

During term time children can only work a maximum of 12 hours a week. This includes:

  • a maximum of 2 hours on school days and Sundays
  • a maximum of 5 hours on Saturdays for 13 to 14-year-olds, or 8 hours for 15 to 16-year-olds

During school holidays 13 to 14-year-olds are only allowed to work a maximum of 25 hours a week. This includes:

  • a maximum of 5 hours on weekdays and Saturdays
  • a maximum of 2 hours on Sunday

During school holidays 15 to 16-year-olds can only work a maximum of 35 hours a week. This includes:

  • a maximum of 8 hours on weekdays and Saturdays
  • a maximum of 2 hours on Sunday

The hourly rate for the minimum wage depends on your age and whether you’re an apprentice.

  • Under 18 years old: £4.20
  • 18 – 20 years old: £5.90
  • 21 – 24 years old: £7.38
  • 25+ years old: £7.83
April 2019
  • Under 18 years old: £4.35
  • 18 – 20 years old: £6.15
  • 21 – 24 years old: £7.70
  • 25+ years old: £8.21

Depending on whether you are in full or part time education you should set limits on your working hours so that your job does not interfere with your education. As a guide:

Part time education: Working a maximum of 30 hours per week is advisable when you are studying for 2-3 days per week.

Full time education: Working a maximum of 16 hours per week is advisable when studying 5 days per week.

We’re looking for Activity Assistants (Instructors) to look after our customers in the great outdoors, at site and in the woods from February to October as they take on their Go Ape challenge – you’ll be fitting harnesses, delivering
safety briefs and training, out and about assisting with local marketing and much more besides - depending on which site you’re at, you’ll be on one or more activities - up in the trees on Tree Top Adventure/Tree Top Junior, whizzing around on segways, bouncing around in nets or zipping on zip trek!

You’ll understand that we stick to our Health and Safety rules, so if you’re thinking of applying, you’ll need to be over 18 so you are able to supervise all age groups.
