BeSeen Marketing was formed in 2011 and is a Marketing agency that assists growing businesses to achieve their aims through effective marketing. BeSeen Marketing are an Employer Partner for the Bucks UTC as part of their CSR programme.
BUDS (Buckinghamshire Disability Service, is a local charity championing the cause to improve life and conditions for disabled people.
Natalia started at the UTC in September 2014 having previously attended the Grange School. She heard about the UTC from a friend and, as she had identified a strong interest in computing, knew that this was the right place for her. She feels that the course has given her a broad experience of all aspects of computing
The highlight of the course for Natalia has been when they organised an event for local schools as part of a project planning unit. They ‘printed’ cars on their 3D printer and raced them at an interschool competition held at Bucks UTC. This gave her experience of planning and running an event.
Whilst at BeSeen Natalia has been working with Buds to create their new website. “It has been a great project being able to use my design skills and web development knowledge in a practical real life scenario.”
Natalia spends one day a week at BeSeen Marketing, a digital marketing agency based in Beaconsfield. She has been working there since March 2015. She had been looking for a placement in creative computing so when she found out about this opportunity she was keen to get involved. She applied formally for the placement and was interviewed by Chris Bantock, Managing Director. Natalia was given a live brief to work on from the outset. She is working with a local charity, BUDS – Bucks Disability Service, on creating a new website which is now reaching completion. She works closely with Dave Oxley from the charity and Chris from BeSeen Marketing, who is her mentor, to ensure the clients expectations are met. Natalia has really enjoyed the opportunity and feels that she has benefited enormously from the placement.
Benefits of work placement
Natalia feels the top 3 benefits of work placement are:
• Confidence – Natalia feels her confidence has grown due to the support she has received on her placement. Attending meetings internally and with clients has enhanced her communication skills at all levels
• Relationship management – Natalia has learnt how to work with people in the office and with clients
• Curriculum support – Natalia has learnt technical skills on her placement which has helped her with her studies, for example, she was able to apply front end of website design to her recent assignments
As a result of her work experience program, Natalia feels that she has been able to submit a strong UCAS personal statement and write a strong CV, full of relevant experience and skills. As a result of her increased confidence, she is now part of the Media Team at the UTC who contribute to the management their Twitter and Facebook accounts.
Natalia feels that with the experience she has gained, she now knows what to expect from the workplace in the future and what will be expected of her, ‘being in the working environment has enhanced my confidence, my communication skills and my vocational knowledge’.
